There is something so special about the Phillips. I think they just have a way with people. You meet Nicole and Tony and you immediately fall in love with their positive attitudes, laid back style, and love for life. I’m lucky enough to not only be their photographer (having photographed their Destination Wedding and their Maternity Session) but to also be their friend. So when they asked me to document the birth of their first born child, I couldn’t wait to join them on another incredible adventure.

On the afternoon of June 8th, I entered the labor and delivery room at St. Vincent Hospital, the same hospital Nicole is a nurse at. Despite the fact that Nicole had been having contractions since the night before, the room felt calm and peaceful. The smell of essentials oils filled the air as Tony and Nicole’s two sisters discussed their roles when the time came to start pushing. Anxious but excited, we couldn’t wait to finally find out the baby’s gender. Nicole and Tony wanted everyone to be surprised, themselves included. Just a few more hours and we would finally know!

Soon, the pushing began. I was in awe of the beauty and the strength Nicole exuded during this process. Even though she experienced just about every emotion, she pushed through with the help and encouragement from Tony and her sisters. At 5:50pm, we finally met their SON! Little Forrest James entered the world eyes wide open and calm as can be. Weighing in at 7lbs. 5oz. and 21″ long, he was absolutely perfect in every way! I’m still SO obsessed with his big eyes and sweet little dimples. I couldn’t help but sob when I saw they way Nicole and Tony looked at him for the first time (seriously, I had to take some deep breaths or else I was going to lose it.) Soon, the rest of their family joined the room and you could feel all the love for little Forrest. So little yet SO loved already!
