I believe in continuing education. I believe in taking a moment to step out of your comfort zone and learn something new. I’m always looking for new and fun ways to push myself and my creativity. Because if we refuse to try new things, how will we ever learn and grow? Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful workshop that pushed me to try something completely different and still have so much fun in the process, the Avant Brush Lettering Workshop!
Hosted by Mint & Lovely Studios, this workshop brought creative women together to practice the art of calligraphy in brush lettering. Our instructor, Victoria of Victoria Danielle Lettering & Designs, guided us in practicing letters, words, and even our own favorite quotes. I have always admired calligraphy but what I never realized was how difficult it can be. You have to be so careful in all that you do – the pressure you put on the brush, the way you hold it, how much paint you have. Calligraphy really makes you stop and focus. You have to work slowly, letter by letter, then you finally take a step back and realize the big picture turned out so beautifully. It helped me realize that it’s a lot like life. If we just focus on making the little things work in our lives, we can take a step back and admire the beautiful world we’ve created.
Working so diligently to make sure each brush stroke was perfect helped turn off my brain to other thoughts. The entire process almost felt meditative, you really had to stop and focus. Not only did I create art, but I also found a way to soothe my soul. I’m so thankful to Haley and Emilee of Mint & Lovely for choosing to host one of their amazing workshops in the city of Green Bay. Our community needed a chance to create and relax. Thanks to Victoria for being so patient with all of us (especially me) and really taking the time to make sure we all had a blast!
A few members from Green Bay’s Rising Tide Society gathered together for a chance to practice their calligraphy skills at this beautiful workshop. I’m so grateful I could spend my Sunday crafting and learning with these amazing women!
Thanks to all the amazing vendors who helped make this event so fantastic!
