Continuing our Attitude of Gratitude Series, today’s post is all about how to find things to be grateful for in your daily life. It’s tough to do when you are stressed, frustrated, or struggling but that’s when you need it the most. If you actually make an effort to find the GOOD in each day, you’ll find your days become brighter and happier.
Identify Your Problem
I get it, you’re having a bad day. It happens to all of us, it’s human nature. The first step in getting over that and finding the good is to identify where you are struggling. Is it a big problem, medium, or small? Is there anything you can do about it? Once you start breaking it down you can work on ways to either fix it if you can or let it go if you can’t. Why stress about it all day long?
Focus on Other Things
We all have those friends who just seem to dwell on their negativity and “bad days.” I’m sure we’ve even dwelled on our negativity for too long as well. It’s important to feel the feelings, then let them go. Why waste a day feeling upset? Once you’ve made the conscious attempt to focus on the good, you’ll be more open to receiving it. My rule – I let myself feel those negative feelings for thirty minutes MAX then I say, “Enough! Let’s move on.” By now, I don’t even need the full thirty minutes because I’m ready to bring in the good as fast as possible.
Find the Joy!
Find what you are grateful for! This will turn any bad mood into a good one. When you set your mind to positive thinking, everything feels much better. I suggest keeping a Gratitude Journal to keep track of all the things you are thankful for. Refer to it when you are having a bad day.
How to Use a Gratitude Journal
• Choose a pretty notebook (I’m a visual person so my notebooks must inspire me.)
• At the beginning of each day, before you start anything, write down 5 things you are grateful for.
• Enjoy your day. Take in every moment.
• Before you go to bed, write down 5 things that happened during your day that you are thankful for.
• Repeat everyday and add extra things if it’s a tough day.
The goal – try not to repeat the same things. Find ten NEW things each day to give thanks for. By practicing this daily, you’ll realize life is FULL of wonderful blessings and opportunities.
So let’s get started – what are YOU grateful for today?
