It was through their mutual friend, Alicia, that Kari and Josh met for the first time back in 2009. Between casual hangouts, Mario Kart 64 parties, and Risk game nights, these two grew very close. It wasn’t long until they starting dating and falling in love. They fit perfectly together. With Kari’s love of gardening and cooking and Josh’s love of brewing beer and biking, it doesn’t matter what they are doing because they just love being together. On their third anniversary, during a trip to Chicago, Josh asked Kari to be his wife and partner in life forever!

After months of planning, the big day finally arrived. Friends and family members gathered at the beautiful Burkart Barn to witness this happy matrimony! The only thing we didn’t count on was the non-stop rain all afternoon. But with everyone in good spirits, we squeezed just about 200 people into the barn for the ceremony! Sparkling chandeliers hung from the rafters and twinkled as guests made their way in. Kari and Josh said their vows right under a beautiful arbor that Kari’s uncle built and their dear friend decorated with hops to honor Josh’s love of brewing beer. As soon as they said, “I do,” thunder boomed and the rain poured even harder, almost as if Mother Nature was celebrating this wedding too.

Thankfully, the rain passed just in time for the reception under the big white tents outside. After much toasting to the bride and groom and the thoughtful speeches, we all made our way back into the barn as the band, Dig Deep, starting playing their hearts out. Everyone found a spot on the floor and danced the night away! It truly was a magical night full of fun and laughter!

Congratulations Kari & Josh! Here’s to love, happiness, and an endless supply of home brews!

This day was not only Kari and Josh’s wedding day, but it was also Kari’s cousin, Ethan’s birthday. Ethan passed away recently and her side of the family wanted to honor him. During the reception, they lit lanterns and let them float off into the night sky as they sang, “Happy Birthday.” In the dark, I couldn’t help but cry during this beautiful tribute. I’m truly honored that I could photograph this moment. Thank you for letting me witness this sweet act of love.
