Happy Independence Day, friends! The 4th of July is my third favorite holiday. This time of year represents all the beautiful freedoms and rights our country was founded on. You know I’ll definitely be listening to Hamilton: The Musical today and getting in the patriotic spirit! “Raise a glass to freedom, something they can never take away!”
It’s a time to be with families, eat delicious food, enjoy the warm weather, and even light a sparkler or two. But this time also reminds me just how lucky we are to be Americans. With that luck and all the beautiful rights we have, I hope that as a country we can use them to help others. I think about a part from the poem mounted inside the pedestal of the Statute of Liberty, “Give me your tired, your poor; Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free; The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me; I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Every time I read that, it gives me shivers. We are one of the greatest nations in the world and I would love to see us using our power, our freedom, our rights to help others. We have the resources and Lady Liberty herself is calling to help those in need. Let’s unite together and answer her call.
So celebrate today, dear friends, because you were given such a gift by just being born in this country. Then tomorrow, start planning on how you can use that gift to help someone else. Because freedom belongs to everyone and I want to use my freedom to help all those in need. “History has its eyes on you.”
Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
