I’m sure you’ve heard this going around before and maybe you’re thinking to yourself, “Where do I even start? How do I find MY people?” We are constantly looking for “our people” long before we have even figured out our message or why we need them. Whether we are thinking about our ideal clients or our social media followers or the fellow vendors we work with, we want to belong. We want people to “get” us. I understand because I’ve felt that too. I still do. But I decided to change the way I was going about it because I was going crazy trying to fill my life with people. Instead of trying to “find the ones,” I worked on being my best so they would find me.
Be Clear
How can you reach out or find people if you do not know what you would even say? What is your message? If you don’t know it, how do you expect to bring in the right people? First, work on what you want to put out into the world. What do you want your story to be? For me, I wanted to share that I’m not just a photographer, I’m a storyteller invested in people. I’m not just an educator, I’m a cheerleader and encourager of creatives everywhere. Figure out what your message is before you try to share it with others.
Be Present
Once your message is clear, start building relationships. It’s not about finding the most people, it’s about finding the right people. If you only have a few followers on Instagram or a few clients for next year, pour into them with all your heart and soul. Love on them for believing in you. Reach out to vendors you’ve loved working with in the past. Go above and beyond for your friends. Give.
Be Content
No need to worry if you haven’t found your tribe yet. It’s a process. But instead of comparing yourself to others or stressing that you won’t find your ideal clients, followers, and friends, just work on being the best possible version of yourself. You are enough and you’re all YOU need. Work hard and do all things with sincerity and I guarantee the right people will fall into place.
