Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
Truth be told, Thanksgiving has never been on the favorite list (and yes, there is a list) for celebrating holidays. I never understood it because I always thought you should give thanks each and everyday. But the older I get, the more I start to appreciate this holiday. Not only because you eat delicious food and spend time with the people you love the most, but it is a chance to really, really think about what you’re thankful.
Now, more than ever, I think we need to take that time. It’s easy to get caught up in post-election sadness, feel rundown from your busy season, or jump right into stressing about the to-do list for Christmas. Even in our everyday life we can sometimes get caught up in stresses, arguments, or little things ruining our day. Being late to work, traffic, the snow that’s coming soon, the Packers losing – we can get lost in that negative mindset.
I understand it’s easy to get lost. Sometimes life can feel so tough that it’s challenging to find one positive thing in your life. After I went through one of the toughest years of my life, I struggled with looking on the bright side at times. Because of that time, I started a Gratitude Journal that I write in every morning. My goal is to write at least 10 things that I’m thankful for before the day even starts. On my hard days, sometimes the things I was thankful for read like this, “I’m grateful to be alive. I’m grateful I’m breathing.” Even something as small as being thankful to be alive changed my world. Not everyone gets that privilege and I had to remind myself just how lucky I truly am.
So if you are feeling down or don’t know what to be thankful for this year, you’re in luck! I’ve complied a list of 50 things you can be thankful for today, on Thanksgiving, and every day of the year to get you through those tough times.
