Maria!
Bubbly. Friendly. Energetic. Loving. All words to describe Maria.
I first met Maria at Runway for a Cure, a fashion show/trunk sale where all proceeds went to the American Cancer Society, in 2011. She was so sweet and we kept in touch through other events in the community. After a while, I found out she was a correspondent for CW 14 and was known as the CW 14 Star. It was so fun to see such a lovely individual on television.
When I decided to pursue this project I thought of her and her daughter, Cara, immediately.
I drove down to Port Washington to spend time with them. We headed over to a park, to play and discuss what it was like to be a mother.
She explained to me that her favorite part of motherhood is helping Cara explore and learn. She loves when Cara gets into new things and she tries broaden her knowledge and creativity in any way she can. Based on her own childhood, Maria wanted to make sure she gave her daughter everything in every way she could.
Having so much love and willingness to help/teach her daughter, Maria sometimes feels guilty when she takes time for herself. Even the smaller things, like just trying to find time for a quick work-out, weigh on her. Her biggest goal is to find balance in every part of life.
Balance is everything.
We continued to play and run around, talking and laughing the whole time. On our way back to their house, Maria shared with me this interesting piece I never really thought about before. You can love your nieces, nephews, other children; but there is no way to explain that special love you feel for your own children. It is priceless.
And take photos! Take millions of photos! The times rushes by and it’s nice to be able to look back on those memories.
And they have the cutest dog ever!
Cara!
