During my days of the week when I’m ferociously editing for hours, I like to binge watch shows to have something to look at every once and awhile. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Project Runway! Tim Gunn’s “make it work” and “I think you’re going to wow me” are like subliminal messages as I power through my work load. I watch all these shows on Hulu and because I’m too cheap to get the subscription without commercials, every so often an ad will pop up. Most are repetitive and get a little annoying but I’ve been really drawn to this Monster.com commercial lately.
As you may know, Monster.com is a website where you can find jobs and careers throughout the nation. In their newest commercial, there is a woman, Allie, who chose to be a truck driver. She drives across the country with her truck exploring new and exciting places. She starts explaining that she has always loved to travel and now she finally can live her dream. Then she says this and tears well up in my eyes every time, “When you finally decide, ‘forget it, I’m going to do what I want,’ your life really starts to open up for you. You’re told you need to go to school, get a job, get a house, have kids. But you don’t. You have the freedom to do whatever you really want to do in life. Never let your fear decide your fate.”
Fear. Fear is that scary thing that holds us back from our deepest desires. Fear is what keeps us stuck in mediocre situations. Fear is always in the back of our mind saying “it will never work.” If you let that fear consume you, it wins. You’ll become stagnant, complacent, never reaching your fullest potential. Fear is something we deal with every day but we don’t have to let it control us. We don’t have to give it the power.
It’s OK to be afraid! It’s OK to be anxious about the future. It’s OK to be nervous to follow your dreams. Everybody deals with their own personal fears and once we start accepting it, the sooner we can push passed it. Start being comfortable with the uncomfortable, because that’s when your break-throughs are going to happen. That’s when your character is developing. That’s when you’re being tested. That’s your chance to rise above fear.
In these scary situations are you going to let fear decide what you are going to do or are you going to be brave and face your challenges head on? I choose the latter and I think you should too! Because I know you can do this! I know you have what it takes to make all of your wildest dreams, hopes, and wishes come true. You are working so hard, do not stop now because you’re afraid of the unknown and what the future might bring. Go for it! Have faith that it’s going to work out exactly how it’s meant to be. The future, though it may be scary at times, is incredibly bright and full of wonderful things.
Nothing worth fighting for will be easy but I’m here to tell you it’s worth it. Don’t let fear get in the way of your divine destiny. You are meant to do great things!
Yeah! Excellent post to get us out of that midweek slump.
Oh I needed this! Thanks for the reminder, lady! :)
So inspirational. So true. My goodness, sometimes it feels like we’re all walking the same road even though our paths seem so different, right?! Love it.
