Over the last few years, more and more people have been flocking to The Music City. It’s a small city booming with live shows, awesome restaurants, and so many fun things to do. It’s no wonder people love spending their time there. Nashville had never really been high on my list of places to go but after so many of my friends had visited and fell in love with it’s charm, I had to see it for myself. I must admit, it’s adorable and up and coming in so many ways!
There is so much more to see besides all the bars and boot shops on Broadway Street. Nashville is alive with incredible food, cute coffeeshops, and so many interesting things to do. From trendy neighborhoods like the Gulch, to the awesome murals, and the nicest people you’ll ever meet – Nashville should be a must visit on everyone’s list. For today’s Fresh Brewed Friday, I’ve complied a list of my favorite restaurants, coffeeshops, and things to do for anyone spending time in the Music City.
Eating
Saint Añejo
A premiere Mexican restaurant, featuring inspired Mexican cuisine, Latin mixology, and a premium tequila and mezcal menu of over 120 labels. Oh my goodness! I ordered the Lone Star Burrito and thought it was the most delicious burrito ever!
Virago
Incredible sushi restaurant in Nashville! If you are a sushi lover, you must stop by! They have an awesome rooftop patio too!
Edley’s Bar-B-Que
Yes! Yes! And more yes! Edley’s is my favorite BBQ joint in Nashville. A pulled pork sandwich with a side of cornbread and mac-n-cheese from here and I’m in heaven!
Hattie B’s Hot Chicken
A Hot Chicken restaurant that serves mild to very spicy fried chicken, Southern sides & local brews in a casual, counter-service eatery. So tasty and delicious in every way!
Things To See
John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge
The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge connects downtown Nashville to the residential suburbs of East Nashville. Perfect for a stroll and awesome spot for photos.
Ryman Auditorium
The Ryman is an awesome music venue for concerts and events and the home of the Grand Ole Opry. It used to be an old church and it’s seriously beautiful. You can take tours of the space but I definitely recommend seeing a show here!
Murals
There are SO many awesome murals throughout Nashville. Art everywhere. If you just explore even a little bit, you’ll be able to find the best ones!
The Parthenon
A full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens. It was built in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition. Pretty incredible to see and also super funny that it’s there!
Coffee Shops
Barista Parlor
My absolute favorite coffee shop in Nashville. It may take a little longer to just get a cup of coffee but it’s because they take such care in making it. Seriously, best cup of coffee I’ve ever had. I would move to Nashville for this coffee shop!
Red Bicycle Coffee & Crepes
Super adorable coffee shop and who can say no to crepes? Not me!
Crema
Another incredible coffee shop. Even stepping into the building I felt so relaxed and calm. I could have spent all day just sitting there.
Frothy Monkey
This may be the most popular coffee shop in Nashville. With a few different locations throughout the city, this coffeeshop has a relaxed vibe, perfect for meeting up with friends in.
Other Favorites
Amelia’s Flower Truck
This is the best thing ever. A mobile floral shop popping up all over Nashville. We NEED to have one in Wisconsin. Let’s start one!
Tours
There are so many great walking tours, whiskey tours, and sightseeing tours in Nashville. Whatever you are looking for, they definitely have it!
Third Man Records
An independent record label founded by Jack White. The first one was started in Detroit but they one in Nashville too. Such a cool place. They also have a Record Booth where you can record music straight to vinyl!
Franklin
A suburb outside of Nashville. Full of historic charm and adorable shops, Franklin was absolutely perfect in every way. I especially loved The Factory at Franklin, a one-of-a-kind retail and entertainment complex listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It’s full of amazing coffee houses, bakeries, and shops.
The Gulch
A trendy neighborhood along the south-west fringe of downtown Nashville. I spent almost every morning in this cute area, exploring the shops, taking Pure Barre classes, enjoying coffee from Killebrew Coffee, and eating at the amazing restaurants that are run by M Street. This is also the neighborhood where you’ll find the big wings mural.
Parking: I had no problem finding parking like in some bigger cities. Parking is more expensive when you get closer to Broadway.
Traffic: Not too bad at all. Yes, at peak times it gets a little busier but it’s nothing like Chicago.
Pricing: Pretty affordable overall. Of course, there are some fancier restaurants and high-end boutiques but for the most part it’s pretty reasonable.
People: The locals are SO nice! Most people aren’t born and raised Nashville citizens, a lot of people moved there and made it their home. But Nashville is a HUGE destination for bachelor and bachelorette parties. Be ready to see tons of them in all the main parts of downtown.
Broadway St.: Yes, it’s cool to have all the live music serenading you as you walk down the street. But most of it’s country music (which I’m not a fan of) and it’s actually a way smaller street than you think. I definitely recommend seeing Broadway to say you saw it but I wouldn’t spend more than a day there. Explore the rest of what this awesome city has to offer!
