Today is my beautiful mother’s birthday and I can hardly contain my excitement! This woman has supported me and cheered me on my entire life. I can tell her anything and she is always quick to share the perfect piece of advice or a hug whenever one is needed. It may sound cheesy but it’s completely true, she is one of my best friends. I think our mother/daughter relationship would give the Gilmore Girls a run for their money, ha!
But instead of gushing about my AMAZING mother for the next hour, I’m opening the blog to HER! She’s asked to share a little advice on her birthday for anyone who is worried about growing older:
“Growing older is a gift not everyone gets to experience. It’s an honor and a privilege to have a birthday. I think women in particular don’t look forward to their birthdays. They worry about growing older, things sagging, and wrinkles appearing. But as women, we need to stop putting ourselves down. Instead, we need to embrace who we are and our fellow woman. Our sisters, our friends, our mothers. Lift each other up and don’t be so hard on yourself! Embrace being a woman, do not let how you think you SHOULD look, act, or be control your life. You are perfect, just the way you are! It’s an amazing time to be a woman! Use your voice to make a difference!
Don’t worry about turning another year older. Instead of stressing about a number, celebrate how far you’ve come! Remember the struggles you’ve beat and the roads that led you to this place. Think of the If poem by Rudyard Kipling, one of my favorites. If the world is acting one way and you choose to keep your grace, dignity, and humility throughout life that’s when you’ll be truly happy. Don’t let what others are doing determine how you choose to live your life.
Enjoy life. Don’t take it so seriously. Set goals but give yourself room to embrace the journey. Laugh. Laugh often. Love fiercely and without reserve. Make mistakes, it’s how you learn and grow. Failure is it’s own reward. There will always be people who don’t like you but who cares? Learn to live with grace and love them anyway. Know that you cannot please everyone, just do your best everyday to be the best version of you!
I’m thrilled to be another year older. I’m thankful for all the blessings I have in my life. My beautiful daughters, my mother, my siblings, my husband, my friends, and all the wonderful people I meet everyday. Each day is a gift and I choose daily to see it as such and enjoy all life has to offer.”
Happy Birthday, mom! I’m so excited to share this day with you!!
