Step Two: Decide on a Date, Budget, & Theme
12-10 Months to Go!
Choose Your Venue
After figuring out your budget and guest list, it’s time to choose exactly where you want your big day to take place! This part is SO fun! You can scout gorgeous locations, decide if you want an indoor or outdoor ceremony, and choose a spot that’s perfect for your vision. Keep in mind, you’ll usually be spending a good portion of your budget on your venue. If they provide catering, ask to do a tasting. Find out what their plan is in case it rains (if you have an outdoor ceremony.) Discuss food and beverage costs, decoration fees, and find out if you can change plans along the way.
Get Organized & Hire a Planner!
This is a step I HIGHLY suggest. Wedding planning can definitely get stressful, I always encourage my couples to hire a wedding planner. They can easily lighten your load and take the stress off of you! With their expertise, they can guide you through this entire process so everything goes smoothly!
On top of hiring a planner, it’s time to get organized. Spreadsheets and binders galore! Get everything in order, including the legal parts. It’s fun to plan the big party but don’t forget to plan for registering for your marriage license!
Hire Big Vendors
The sooner you hire your top vendors, the better. This is all about your personal priority but some vendors will book further out than others. I always suggest booking your planner, your photographer, and your videographer as soon as possible! Most of these vendors only take one wedding a day and are booking out at least a year in advance. So if you have someone in mind, reach out right away! You’ll be so happy you did!
