One of the most important things I share when I’m mentoring other photographers is this: As a photographer, it’s our responsibility to use our profession to give back and help our community. You could do this in so many ways! What I like to do is choose a couple organizations that I’m passionate about, reach out to them and see if I can donate my services in anyway or volunteer with whatever they may need help with.
One of my favorite organizations is the Boys and Girls Club. It’s an amazing program dedicated to giving kids a safe and productive place to go. Sometimes if kids do not have that safe home or place to turn to they end up heading towards other negative influences. Thankfully, the Boys and Girls club is a great facility for them to spend their time at and the club offers all sorts of activities for the kids to do. From gyms, dance studios and outdoor fields to art, computer and music rooms; they have so much for the kids to participate in. They even offer time and areas for them to work on homework!
I spent a Friday afternoon at the West Green Bay club to see what it was all about and meet some of the kids that hang out there. They were amazing! Whether they were playing sports or working on the computer, they were so sweet and helpful to me and each other.
The Boys and Girls Club is always looking for volunteers and donations. If you think this might be something you’re interested in check out their website HERE.
