10 years ago a personal photo project idea came into my heart. I titled it Light & Love: a photographic celebration of mothers. I photographed and interviewed 28 women all sharing the stories of motherhood. Women from all walks of life with unique journeys, joys, and heartaches. I ended up putting together a solo art show to showcase the beauty and strength of each woman.
It felt only fitting that a decade later, in a new city, and now a mother myself, I wanted to revisit this project. Not only because my photography skills have improved (thank goodness!) but because I want to dig even deeper. My own motherhood journey has made me question myself, find inner strength I didn’t know I had, and learn to process new emotions. Becoming a mother means becoming a new version of yourself and I want to learn more about it.
So I’m reopening the project! Light & Love will be an ongoing photographic adventure where I photograph and interview mothers in all stages of their journey. My goal with the photos is to showcase the beauty, grace, and incredible strength. With the interview, I’m hoping to share real and raw stories so others know they are not alone. This journey can feel so isolating and if you hear just one story that sounds similar to yours, you already feel a little bit lighter.
I’ve already photographed a few incredible moms and I’m looking for more! If you’re interested, feel free to send me an email (must be willing to come to the Seattle area for a session.) The photo sessions are free as long as you are open to me sharing everything. I want to celebrate all people and try and tell as many stories as possible that touch on all sorts of topics like infertility, loss, IVF, adoption, breastfeeding, birth trauma, PPD/PPA, teenage years, kids leaving for college, and MORE.
I’m so excited for this! First photos and stories coming soon!
